I just went to a new doctor about my thyroid and after doing an ultra sound he said that my thyroid was not working at all. But after he got my blood work back he lowered my medicine from 125 to 75. This doesn't make sense to me , you would think the medicine would need to be increased not lowered. Does this make sense to you or do I need to find another doctor ?!

The ultrasound may predict how much normal appearing thyroid tissue is present, but the blood tests will tell how active the thyroid function is.
125 to 75 is a huge dose decrease -- may want to get the lab results and review the reasoning for such a dramatic change -- unless you are having unstable heart symptoms.

It might just be a misunderstanding. However, I don't think they can tell anything about thyroid function from an ultrasound. You have a right to have things explained to you as many times as you need, and don't feel silly if you have to ask the doctor to repeat anything! I have a Ph.D. and I do that all the time...these medical issues are tricky. You need to get a copy of your lab results and post them here. Keep a file folder of all your results for reference in the future.

Get a copy of your blood results - and see how you feel- if you feel tired and the symptoms of hypo come back you may need an adjustment - i am finding out you have to be your own advocate.

I imagine that your ultrasound found that your thyroid had atrophied (by the presence of a smooth goiter) meaning that it had stopped functioning.

I talked to the doctor and he said that when he felt of my neck he could fell that my thyroid on the right was very enlarged and that the ultra sound showed the same but, the blood work did show some thyroid activity and that he felt the 125 was to much. He wanted to see how I did on the 75. I guess I'll try it for a while , I have to go back in two weeks to recheck the blood work.

When you get your blood work make sure you get a copy - every doctor seems to have a different opionin of what normal should be. Only you know if you feel good or not
