Recommend endocrinologist in Sarasota FL area?

My daughter was diagnosed hypothyroid by her PCP.  She responded to the dose of hormones prescribed for awhile, but is feeling worse again...needs to see an endo.  Does anyone living in the Sarasota FL area have an endocrinologist they like & recommend?

Thanks,

Laika

Hi,
I live right up the road in Parrish and I called a Endo in Sarasota by the name of Dr. Mark Lupo but he did not have any openings until October.  I even asked if there was a call back list and their response was that they even have thyroid cancer patients and can't get them in. Very sad!!!!
I have just been diagnosed as being hypothyroid and am going to my general doctor for the time being.  She is really good and listens, that to me is very hard to find these days. I go back in tomorrow to talk with her about my test.
Good luck in your search.

Thanks for your post.  I had looked up endo's in that area on the net and remember Dr Lupo's name.  Although I am not a thyroid patient myself, both my sisters are.  Their advice to my daughter: don't mess around with your PCP--get to an endo.  Some people get lucky with their PCP, apparently, but neither of my sisters did.  Thyroid symptoms interfere so much with your quality of life--there's no sense to be functioning at less than the best level you can achieve.

So...I'll let my daughter know she may be in for a wait and she better get to it.  Doesn't it seem like there's an epidemic of thyroid problems?

Hello,
Yes there does seem to be an epidemic, but that is because of the change in the levels. They were lowered by the AACE. It was lowered back in the beginning of 2003 and is just now catching up.  The Doctor's are not aware of the changes and if it falls into the reference range then it is not flagged on the report.
I am going to wait for 6 weeks with my Doctor. She has already scheduled me for thyroid antibody test and has already given me a script for another TSH in 6 weeks.
Thyroid problems run in my family.
Good Luck!

If you have lab work please send it to the office as this helps triage patients needing to be seen sooner.  We are trying to cut down on the three month wait.  Also, if you have a primary or referring physician, information from that person may expedite the appointment depending ont he situation.  We always look at the information available to decide who needs to be seen urgently.....Dr. Lupo
