Where do I start

My allergy doctor said my thyroid felt full.  A month later she said the same thing and said I need to have it check with my primary doc.  I just had an appointment last week and the doctor is calling it a goiter and requested blood work and ultrasound.  My blood work came back normal.  The goiter is in the front of my neck slightly to the right.  It feels as though one side is pressing on my throat.  I feel I have a lump in my throat.  I do have major allergies.  At times I have had major coughing fits.  My neck feels swollen and I have a lot of pressure behind my ear.  I kept thinking it was my tonsils causing the problem.  There are no problems on my left side.  Do goiters usually cause these problems?  Are there any other things to watch for?  I am new to this and not really sure.

The best way to assess this would be ultrasound to see if there is any nodule and to confirm whether or not the thyroid is enlarged (enlarged thyroid = goiter)
