hypercalcemia

I just received some blood work back from my doctor on vitamin D and it was extremely low at 17%.  I have hypercalcemia. They said my PTH was normal. ????? I thought that might cause hypercalcemia. Should I see a Endocrinologist to evaluate this situation.  I am being given 5,000 mg of vitamin D now from my doctor. I have all the symptoms of hypercalcemia and was diagnosed with it.  Wont the 5,000 mg of vitamin D everyday for 3 months spill over into blood and hard on kidney? I already have developed right renal kidney stone.  Thank you for any professional quideing you can give me.  Thank You, Linda Scott

Sounds like hyperparathyroidism with inappropriately normal PTH.  The combination of low vitamin D and high calcium should raise suspicion for primary hyperparathyroidism.  The kidney stone history supports this as well.  Would be cautious with vit D treatment.  Usually we repeat PTH/Ca and consider 24h urine Ca to confirm the diagnosis, then find a good parathyroid surgeon.
