thyroid cancer

My endo prescribed carbimazole 15 mg for my cousin who is suffering from carcinoma of thyroid. FNAC showed differential diagnosis of follicular , medullary carcinoma. Cousin is 65 years old female. Calcium is 8.4 mg%. My question is can carbimazole be given to patient suferring from carcinoma of thyroid?

carbimazole (similar to the methimazole we use in the US) is for hyperthyroidism not for cancer.  However, patients with thyroid cancer can also have hyperthyroidism (not due to the cancer) and need to be treated with such medications to make the thyroid function normal in preparation for surgery (after which the anti-thyroid medication is stopped and levothyrxoine started).
