I am a 19-year-old female. My physician noticed my neck was abnormally large during my physical so she checked my TSH, T4, Free levels and they all came back normal. She then referred me to an imaging center for a thyroid ultrasound. The results got sent to my physician, but the nurse there told me that my physician hasn't had the chance to look at the images. So the nurse just told me to come pick up my referral to an ENT specialist and my ultrasound report. The report suggested an ultrasound guided biopsy for a 5.6 cm hypervascular nodule found.
THYROID ULTRASOUND RESULTS:
It stated that the left lobe of my thyroid measures 6 x 3.4 x 4 cm and a large hypervascular nodule is seen in my left lobe measuring 5.6 x 2.8 x 5 cm. It involves most of the left lobe in the mid and lower part and extends to the upper pole. My isthmus is 3.22 mm and there are no impressions of lymphadenopathy. My right lobe measures 4 x 1.1 x 1.2 cm and shows a normal echotexture and vascularity on color Doppler.
Does the size of the nodule, the fact that it's hypervascular along with my age and gender raise suspicion for cancer? I really would like someone's insight and opinion on this since my physician hasn't had the chance to view my ultrasound results and it will be awhile until my ENT appointment. My anxiety really likes to kick in during periods like these haha.
Thank you so much! It really is appreciated.
