Is Synthroid enough?

Recent searches I've been doing online brought me here, so I'm very new to this forum :)

When I was 21 I had a thyroidectomy. The tumor was positive for Papillary Carcinoma as were a couple lymph nodes. The crazy roller coaster ride of the past 1 1/2 years has been rough. Having to be on and off then on and off again of synthroid for treatments and retesting about drove me crazy. Would finally lose weight to my normal size only to gain again. As annoying as everything was, I'm so happy it was found early.
And I'm finally starting to get as close to normal now than I have been since December 2009. However, there are still some things that aren't in place.
I've had my levels tested and my endocrinologist says that I'm in the "Hyperactive" range where she wants to keep me but I still feel off. I sleep 8-9 hours most nights and am still tired by 1PM. Thinner hair. Bloated. Basically all the above for hypo symptoms. I've asked multiple times about getting on Armour or Thyrolar or anything else that might help give me that extra boost to feel like a normal functioning human being. My Dr. denies that I need anything else.
I take vitamins, use Green Vibrance (has helped a little with energy) but doesn't seem right yet.

Should I find another Dr? Or is this pretty much normal for those of us without any living thyroid cells at ALL?

Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated :)

Hi,

some people do fine on just T4 meds and some need a combination of T3/ T4 meds.

To know whether you are "ok" or not, you need to have some more testing.

Does your doctor only test TSH, or does she also test FT3 and FT4.

Your FT4 should be about mid range or a bit above, and your FT3 should be in the upper 1/3 of the range (as a general guideline), AND you should feel good.

If you have FT3 / FT4 resutls, please post them, if you don't please ask your doctor to test these.

If she refuses, perhaps you need to find another doctor who will look at you more wholistically.

My next appointment is next week and I'll ask her to test FT3, FT4 as well as TSH. She's very thorough with testing and making sure any cancer cells aren't growing yearly. But maintenance in-between that time seems to lack. At least to me. I'll see how this goes and if there's not much more help, I might seek out another Dr.

Alright...had bloodwork today, so won't get those levels until tomorrow or Monday. However, I did get my levels from the last time I had blood drawn.

TSH 4.99 uIU/mL  (which she had told me about 6 months ago I'm supposed to be 0.3 ...)
FT4 1.3 ng/dL
T3 Total 188.6 ng/dL

Mind you, I have complained before of tiredness to only be told there's nothing more she can do prescription wise and directed me to a multivitamin. I also had to ask 3 times to have new bloodwork done this week. I'm wondering if I should switch to another Dr.
She had told me before that I needed to be in the Hyperactive range so that IF there is any living thyroid cells they won't be trying to grow/reproduce therefore slowing any cancer spreading. But my bloodwork from last time contradicts what she has told me. And I've already put in for her to call me so I can ask WHY she didn't do something in May when these came in.

Thanks everyone for above comments ... it's really hard to find the right med and the right mix of it (dose, etc.) that's right for you sometimes.
