I am 70 years old. I understand my surgery will be cutting from ear-to-ear due to lymphnode involvement. What are the side effects of this kind of surgery. Hair Loss, weight gain, weakness, sexual disfunction, moodiness? Do some patients have little to no side effects? I understand that I have the most common type of thyroid cancer and is very curable. Any advice?
Well, without knowing a relevant clinical details or a detailed clinical evaluation it would be difficult to comment specifically on the situation. Assuming the situation to be of a total thyroidectomy, the side effects associated with hypothyroidism do not usually occur since the blood hormone levels are well maintained by use of medications. I would suggest discussing the situation and the suggested management plan in detail with your treating doctor.
Hope this is helpful.
