? for graves and hyper patient's!

by Blue727, May 24, 2008 08:09PM
To those that are either hyper or have Graves disease,

Do you constantly have hand tremors and shakiness or does it come and go?  Is it just tremors of the hands or can it be shakiness all over the place?

Do you have episodes of being extremely intollerant of the heat, but also of the cold?  Thanks!

My tremors were worse in the morning. I looked like I was having D.T's or like I was a alcoholic needing a drink. I remember sweating - but I do not remember if I had cold intolerance.

When the heart palps started - that is when I became afraid

1) Use to but not since anti-thyroid med. That was the least of my problems so i don't remember if it was constant.
2) Heat and cold intolerance, YES. I like 75-76. Heat makes me mad and irritable. Cold is debilitating.

OMG..there are times I get so cold, I have to take a really HOT bath to soak and warm me up.  My hand tremors have lessened up a lot now that my levels are somewhat normal on Tapazole, but they still happen if I hold my hand "just so" holding papers or something in my hands.

I have only just been diagnosed with Graves.

I have the total body shakiness and my hands come & go.  When I become active it worsens - such as when I work.

I feel on edge at these times and was actually crying this morning as it all felt too much. By the afternoon it reduces.

I feel very hot at night and bouts during the day and then start shivering. I actually was glad to read that others experience this. I have only been on meds for just over a week. The atenolol has stopped the palpatations and brought my heart rate down from 100-130 to around 80  and I thought the tremorswere better,  but they are worse than ever now - so I expect that my levels are higher than 2 weeks ago.

I am just praying that the neo-mercazole works soon so I can stop feeling like a person on the edge - I am a manager and have also to support people/patients in crisis and it is difficult to do this the way I feel at present.

My symptoms are about the same as above.  The more anxious I get the worse the shaking is...I stand in line at the grocery store and shake all over..My husband teases and says  That woman needs a drink....I just laugh.

Night sweats...nightmares...panic attacks when driving that I have to pull over...On edge constantly...I get so hungry ....I eat in the middle of the night.  Lost about 50 ish pounds..heart races..skips beats... The list could go on.

Been on Methimazole since Sept.  helped at first and still maybe a little....but I get symptoms all the time.  Dr. just says this will take time.  I will wait..I am pretty patient

take yourself off all caffiene as soon as you can, it helps a lot with the tremors. Also, your doctor can prescribe a beta blocker like propanol to slow down your heart rate and it should help with the anxiety and tremors.  make sure you get a blood test every month..I required way more methim than the average bear and it might be the case for you as well.

I stopped caffeine about 12 months before I found out I had hyperthyroidism as I noticed it really made sleeping much worse. I also am on a beta-blocker. My symptoms comes and go now - but are better than before. I seem to be having good and bad days. At least I am not going to the toilet 6-7 times a day now. Stopped the beta-blocker this week as my heart rate was too low and was feeling unwell when excercising. Now will take only when symptoms worsen. Still have the crying days

the hand tremors were actually going on almost a year before i went to the doctor, mainly because i thought it was a symptom of my strokes. but then  i started having the elevated heart rate, and sleepless nights, sweating, constant movement of my legs. if i ate in less than 20 min i was in the bathroom. there are days i don't shake at all and others i feel like i'll shake out of my body.if it is 70 or over i am hot,hot hot! if it is below 65 i am fairly comfortable. I cannot stand heat of any kind. i am starting to recognize when my levels are way out of wack, but my endo is strange. she sees a patient the first time then after that she lets the PA handle you. i've only seen her in passing in the hallway. I have seen her only on the first appointment in May. Iv'e been there 2 times since and  my faith is not too strong, but even my gp is unhappy and has suggested i go to another endo. I don't understand a lot that is happening and getting a human to answer the phone is impossible.i feel that maybe i need one that specializes in thryoid issues. my endo's baby seems to be diabetics. i am frustrated by the lack of true understanding that those of us with this are going thru, there are days i feel invisible.and like most there are days i want to kick _ss and take names later and I am truly able to go from one extreme to another in less than 3 nano seconds. i'm learning that i am not alone thanks to this and other websites. it is simply amazing that there are a ton of us, and yet they do not know the cause.Stress makes it worse, and I used to work in law enforcement, now i am looking for a less stressful job.
