Of much more importance than TSH would be tests for free T3 and free T4 levels. These are thyroid hormones that largely regulate metabolism and many other body functions. Free T3 is the most important since it is four times as potent as free T4. Free T3 also correlates best with hypo symptoms. TSH is a pituitary hormone that does not correlate well at all with hypo symptoms. My opinion is that the best approach is to treat a patient's symptoms by testing and adjusting free T3 and free T4 levels with medication as required to relieve those symptoms.
So, dependent on whether you have hyper symptoms currently, if I were you I would not want to change the med dosage without testing for the "Frees". If your doctor is receptive to this, fine. If not, you may have to insist.
I asked about a yr ago for a follow up thyroid test. That's when they found hypothyroid. The only thing going on w/me now is hair loss.....again. I have anxiety already so I would think anything of them symptoms...
