2 Root Canals .. I have an ABSCESS~!!!!!! Must be done before surgery ... EEK!!

THANK GOODNESS you ladies "grounded me" with my meltdown last week bcz I just got back from my 2nd opinion about the excrutiating nerve pain to heat on the tooth next door to the tooth just root canaled and I have bad news:

I MUST HAVE 2 MORE ROOT CANALS FINISHED BEFORE MY SURGERY or I cannot have the thyroid surgery.  I HAVE AN ABSCESS ON MY BACK MOLAR~!!!!!  It has spread two teeth fwd !!!! Isn't this nice???  If  I thought I was crying thinking about a RC now I MUST HAVE IT and this Dr. said he will work his schedule around ME to keep my 1/9 thyroid surgery appt and have a clean bill of health.

I am not having a meltdown now but I'm very uneasy about the emotional strain of all this .. I explained to the Dr. that I cried the other day not about the RC itself but the PAIN FACTOR and that one of my RC's last year turned black and blue on the outside of my face w/swelling and took 5 visits!!!! Yet we got thru it and saved the tooth.

This Dr. is a NY Giants Team Endodontist and I like him alot .. he even will do the first RC and he is out of network but will grant me the in-network fee, etc. as I've run out of money, etc.

I'm feeling some pity for myself right now .... but I'll get over it I guess.

He raised his voice and told me YOU HAVE NO OPTION .. you can have a life-threatening condition if you have surgery with this abscess and the tooth next to it not taken care of.

I got a thumb's up for surgery as long as the root canals are free of infection .. we are shooting for end of Dec. as the target date for completion.  They are molars, so need to be done in more than one visit ea. one with some healing time inbetween, etc., etc.  The office is VERY efficient and called me back within 2 hrs after I called with my concerns .. it's good to know the Dr. is accesible and has efficient staff .. that is a sign of a good Dr. and good office oftentimes!

Yeah, that is what I thought too 2 week minimum .... I did the right thing and spoke with the surgeon's office advising my surgeon of this "bump in the road" .. I want to be honest and let him call the shots along with the Endodontist as far as being certain I'm fit for surgery!

I would wait at mininum 2 weeks It will depend on how fast you recover.I dont think I would have let anyone near me for about 4 weeks.Love Venora

So they are taking off my temp crown the day before surgery and I'll stop by one day to have it reglued in until I am ready to take possession of the perm. one on the tooth finished a few weeks ago.  Here is my ? to you ...

How long to you think post-op will I be ready to have the regular dentist start the work for the crowns on the two newly root canaled teeth?  I other words, how long would you have taken do you think to heal to be able to feel okay with seeing your dentist for work considering the neck was worked on and sore muscles, etc.?

I am so sorry.  When it rains, it pours!!  Look on the bright side, you get your root canals fixed and the thyroid surgery will seem like a walk in the park!  :-)

Take an hour for yourself and get a massage, listen to some relaxing music, or just soak in a hot bath.  You deserve a lot of "me" time!!!

Great idea on the vitamins .. I cannot do the antioxidants bcz of kidney stones but will certainly remain physically healthy to promote emotional healing .. wait, I have that backwards LOL ... emotional healing to promote physical healing LOL .. ah doy  .. you see the day I've had ?

OH you poor dear.I was sooo hoping that root canal could wait.
