2nd Biopsy showing Hurthle cells 12 weeks pregnant

Hi this is my second post since joining. I have a 4cm solid cold nodule on left lobe all bloods are fine. First biopsy came back inconclusive do to insufficent cells gathered.

Went to see surgeon last Monday. Who advised because i am pregnant  (12 weeks)he wasnt keen on doing surgery because of that biopsy result, and decided to do another.
He called me about a hour ago and explained again there was not enough cells to make a true diagnosis, But some  abnormal cells have been found. (Hurthle Cells) He said because of biopsy not being sufficent he would rather monitor me closely  througout pregnancy and do surgery after baby is born. He said to go and see him on monday coming to discuss this further.

Feeling really confused. Is there any other tests they can do to rule out benign or malignant hurthle cells without surgery at the moment? not sure what questions etc i should be asking when i go and see him on monday. etc another biopsy? any kind of scans? or tell them to do surgery?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Regards

Zoe

I am in a similiar situation as yourself (less the pregnancy)....I have hurthle cells on one side and follicular cells on the other. I have been recommended to have a TT due to the size of the nodule (3.7cm) and due to the abnormal cells. Malignancy cannot be ruled out because the benign cells and malignant cells look very similiar and must be biopsied in order to tell the difference...which means removal and biopsy of the entire thyroid tissue. Also...due to the fact that not all cells in the nodule are biopsied...it could be missed.  I would advise you to get another opinion and do research on your situation. That will help also.

Hi, im not to sure if i can help you, but the only other test i have heard of is an uptake scan to see if the nodual is hot or cold, but i dont think this will be done with you being preggy..hopefully someone will be along with more input, did they test your antibodies with you blood work as well..
