Hi,
thank you very much for your response.my T3,T4 are 1.46 and 11.25 respectively and thyroidantibody test is negative.my endo has started me 50 mcg of thhyroid hormone and has asked me to come back after 2 weeks with FT3 and TSH tests.according to him my test are normal and there'll be no problem to the pregnancy.please could you throw further light on this?
Hi,
Your TSH is higher than it should be, but not alarmingly high. If you can get treatment started quickly your baby should be fine. Target TSH should be 1 - 2 during pregnancy.
The doctor also needs to check FT3 and FT4, which are the actual thyroid hormones (TSH is a pituitary hormone and not very useful for determining actual levels).
Please know that the normal reference range during pregnancy for FT3 and FT4 is increased by 50%. Optimal level for FT3 and FT4 during pregnancy should be close to the top of the reference range.
You should be started on a T4 med immediately. You should then be monitored every 4 weeks for Ft3 and FT4 (Tsh is optional) and the meds adjusted to keep the FT3 and FT4 high. It is normal to have to increase thyroid meds every month during pregnancy.
