8 weeks pregnant and worried about TSH level

by amyelmo0203, Nov 06, 2007 03:18PM
Hi

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism after I was having difficulty getting pregnant.  I was started on 50mcg of levothyroxine in August when my TSH levels were 8.93.  I was asked to come back in 6 weeks time to get my blood tested again.  I did go back and my TSH was 3.76 and my T4 was around 12.  My tabs were increased to 100mcg.  I found out the next week that I was pregnant.  I wanted my blood tested again as I had read a TSH between 1 and 2 is important to maintain a pregnancy.  My dr said I would have to wait 4 weeks.  So I did and my TSH was 4.08 and my T4 is 13.8.  I told my dr my concerns about the TSH level being higher than 2.  He said it is in the normal range and increased my med to 125mcg.  This was last week.  I am now very anxious I am going to miscarry.  I had an early scan and saw heartbeat last week and baby measuring fine.  But still anxious.  Do you think I should be concerned?  Am I on the correct dose of Levothyroxine?  I tested positive for antibodies.

Thanks

i'm not sure about all of your levels because i'm new to all of this- but i do want to say relax as much as you can. worry is not good at any point in pregnancy.

best of luck and i hope you find the answers you're looking for.

before i was diagnosed.. well. imean.. the first time i was given a bloodtest for TSH.. my levels were around 12-13.  it was bad.  very bad.. i was told that that was why i was losing my babies.... well.. as soon as i got it up to 4-5 .. everything was awesome.. i think you are doing great... try not to worry so much..  was tested about every 2-4 weeks during my pregnancy.. everytime it was around 4-5.... i think you are doing just fine..... my levels now are around 5..... so i am pretty happy withthat. your doc should test you more now that you are pregnant.. to make sure that your levels stay where they should.. congrats!!!!
