Basal body temperature is taken in the armpit, before getting out of bed.  The normal is reported as 97.6-98.2.  Basal temp. below that is a good indication of low metabolism, which usually relates to low thyroid.  BT is an indicator, to be considered along with other symptoms.  If it is low, you should insist on being checked for free T3 along with free T4.  Free T3 is the most active component, that largely determines metabolism.  T3 is 4 times as potent as T4.  Sometimes people's bodies do not convert T4 to T3 very well, so it is very important to test and regulate free T3 levels.  Numerous forum members report that they feel best when their free T3 is in the upper third of its range.

i was told to take temp, right when i wake up. my temp has been low ever since my tt. in nov. i think i need a slight increase all other labs, blood, urine came back perfect. off all meds. taking vitamins exercising, not depressed, so i think i just need a slight incease but these endos say they don't adjust in the range. so i don't know what to do now. working with a naturalpathic doctor now. she said shell send me to a doctor she works with to get the increase.    im tired of this.

How did you measure your basal body temp.?  Most people with hypo t problems seem to do better when their TSH is in the low end of the range and free T3 in the upper end of its range.  If you haven't been tested for free T3, this would be a good idea.

Yes i agree. but ive been to 2 endo since the operation and both were complete as****les, literally saying i go by the numbers.  they don't give a s*** about how you feel, worse type of doctor ive ever been to in my entire life. my foot doctor cared more about my overall health then  these *** endos do. working with a naturalpath doctor now.   and im not the only one. This tyroid thing has changed my opions of doctors forever. theyre just robots, out for the money Kevin

I agree with Marin600.
I fired my Endo as soon as I had RAI (10 months ago) and doing so much better without her! My GP manages me and we work togther on the Graves and levels....
The Endo just wanted her $190 for 4 minute visits.

The day my endo told me tiredness is not from thyroid issues is the last day I'd be his/her patient!

My bt has been lower than the norm for decades, but even though still low on Armour, it's higher on Armour than on any other thyroid med I've been prescribed.  Nutritional supplementing has helped me feel better; don't know if getting off them would cause my bt to go even lower, again, because afraid to experiement in that regard.  Like the Armour much better than other preparations, also, because I have fewer aches and pains.  Not gone, but much improved.  You might do a little checking around and see if you think Armour would be of benefit to you.
