I have had chronic hives for 5 years only disappearing when I was pregnant, I see a link in hormones. I recently asked to have my thyroid tested and was diagnosed with Hashimoto's I also have a high CRP level 15.8. My thyroid stim, immunglobulins level was 176. I am really in need of some help. Any suggestions?
I am relieved to hear other people say that they see a hormonal connection with chronic hives. I have only been told that menopause might aggravate it and it has. My dermatologist had put me on round the clock antihistimines (Xyzol and cimetedine in the morning and atarax and cimetedine at night.) It definitely improved things but it is still really bad. A course of steroids caused dramatic improvement, but the hives came back full force after the steroids were finished.I still wake up at 3 or 4 every morning with hives but at least the atarax helps me feel sleepy enough to go back to sleep.Sometimes I go ahead and take my morning shower at three because it relieves the itch and relaxes me and then i can sllep a little longer before work. Besides being scheduled for the thyroid songram, the doctor has also recommended an allergist. But.... my understanding is that a huge percentage of people with chronic hives never identify a specific allergen. It really is like an allergy to yourself.

Thanks!
See it is really weird....My t4 is 7.3 and my tsh 3rd generation? is 2.0. these all seem normal. what isnt normal is my thyroid stim. Immunoglobulins is 176 should be between 0-130. also my c reactive protein level is 15.8 a normal range is 0-3. I am so confused. I guess my thyroid itself is good. But I have Hashi's beacuse the antibodys are so high? HELP!!!
I thought that I had low thyroid problems also yet the Doctor ordered the TSH which he said would not show normal ,if I had it, I actually asked him to do the T3 and T4 but he said he would do the TSH so that came back normal.I have had chronic hives now for almost 2 years, after a dental trauma, I never know who I am to believe .its a battle they also did Lyme titer that came back Normal..every day I am online hoping for answers I have more help on MH than in any Doctors office ...
Shingles every month - for nine months!
So I found another doctor and found out I have Hashimoto's. A lot of us Hashis get the skin problems. Sometimes it can be controlled by upping vitamins. Vitamin D deficiency is common in Hashis. It can cause rashes, muscle cramps, etc. Get a 1,000 mg vitamin D pill and take daily. Get one that is gluten/soy free. Walmart has them. Also, sitting in the sunshine 30 minutes a day helped me.
Sometimes, it's not so easy to control the rashes, hives, etc.
Also, I sure hope you're on thyroid meds. Eventually, as your meds are raised, you should be feeling better and maybe these rashes will clear.
My scalp rash actually improved with the prescription shampoo, Nexoral. Then they put me on generic and it doesn't work.
I don't know what a CRP level is, so I can't help you there.
Take care...
