Abnormal Thyroid Scan with nodules

by nsalive, Mar 16, 2009 08:01PM
I recently noticed my thyroid was signicantly enlarged.  I noticed a slight enlargement last year at this time. But, my doctor didn't agree and only performed TSH. Which was normal.  Today, I saw my PCP, and he immediately agreed my Thyroid appeared enlarged.  He performed routine test,TSH,T3, T4, CBC, BMP and ESR.  I had ultrasound today that confirmed enlarged thyroid with two small nodules.  Radiologist reports nodules too small for fine needle biopsy.  Recommends rechecking in 4-6 months.  Is there another test I should have.. like a thyroid scan?

if your hormonal levels are normal the scan is not necessary.
was the ESR rate elevated ?
any remarks about heterogeneos echotexture from the ultrasound?
