Adrenals and cortisol levels.

by bitten, Apr 15, 2007 12:00AM
Hi there,

I was hoping to hear from hypo folk who have had there adrenal glands and other glands tested, not just  thyroid.

I am working with a Natra path physician and he has really enlightened me to the seriousness of this.
I have been off thyroxine for almost 3 weeks now and feel fine. Next month I will have my adrenal glands checked and my cortisol levels looked at.

It is his belief that many hypo people are really suffering from a multidude of gladular problems and thyroid is the only one most dr.s look at.

I appreciate everyone's kind concern, but negative scare-mongering is not needed.
I know the risks of being without meds, etc. I also know that there are truly ill hypo people who could never have stopped there meds as I have. I am not talking about those awful cases.

I wish everyone the best,

Bitten

I've done some reading regarding stress on the adrenals as a result of having a long-term thyroid disorder.  I see an endo on Wednesday and am going to request she does not only tests my cortisol, but also for Ferritin (iron in the liver).  From what I've been reading, Ferritin is very important when it comes to actually being able to *use* thyroid meds, i.e., get the most out of what you take.

As much as I'm looking forward to this meeting, wish there was time for more reading.

Take care!
