Advice

Okay, so I am pretty much stable now. I have a feeling that my depression/anxiety/ fog is going to be the last to leave. I have had that all my life. I am thinking about trying to get on something for it. I had a suggestion of paxil. Only temporary. i have so much anxiety it makes me dizzy. I don't want to continue the xanax, its way to addictive for me especially being a smoker. But any of you who are on something that can help let me know. Thanks guys I also need something for the tension, because I tense up my face , neck and shoulders, and gives me extra headaches.

Are you hypo or hyper?  I have anxiety alos with Hypo and have started Lexapro and .25 of Clonazepam at night only it is helping me.  I'm not 100% yet but I'm feeling somewhat better.  It's ok to have to take something in the mean while.  It does not mean you will have to for ever.  They tried me on the zanex but I did not like it.  It's makes me to tired but I do have it on hand if I need a little.  I really have not had to take it though.

B vitamins are supposed to be very good at helping with nerve function.  I take B-12 injections every 2 weeks for pernicious anemia and I don't seem to have so much of the fog and depression that I hear so much about with thyroid disease, but I'm not sure whether that's because of the B-12 or not as I'm not sure my levels are high enough.  I've asked my dr to let me go to weekly shots to get my levels higher, but he doesn't want to since they are currently in the "normal" range - but I know how good I feel right after I have a shot and that I'm really down and draggin' by the time 2 weeks is up, so I suspect that if I could go to once a week and get my levels higher, it would make a world of difference.  I see dr again on Monday and will ask again.  I'm not on anti-depressants, but I do see a therapist - started that to help deal with my hubby's depression!!  I feel like the therapist is helping to keep me on track.

Thanks guys, it could be just the winter blues too. I hate xanax I am addicted to it when i take it.I was thinking something short term not so addictive. I no I shouldnt' be on anything, but my thyroid is telling me im severely depressed, and I am not sure why.I might go talk to someone if this keeps up. Yes laura, doctors, just send me home with antibiodics, two weeks worth this time, from the water retention im not sick! Not in that way lol They see all the fluid thats build up and think sinuses, well, nope lol. Somedays I am better, I know i have  a long way to go I am still taking my acidiphilous, mag, and vitamins a couople of times a week. I am awaiting to laugh at them when I don't have allergies, I hope;)

I really can't praise B12 injections enough. If you have the resources and funds to get a B12 deficiency test I'd check into it. And the injections are very inexpensive (like $20 a year). This has done wonders. B12 is a cofactor for building neurotransmitters. It helps build more neurotransmitters.

However, I am on Cymbalta (and have been on a similar medication since 2000) and I'm adding B12 to the Cymbalta and it's really helped my fogginess. My goal is after thyroid stimulation to not need the Cymbalta.

Hi there,
I have been taking wellbutrin way before being diagnosed by my Gyno, having Graves.  All I can say is I do not have headaches, not sure if it works, but have 2 teenage boys, being a single mom.  I think if I stop taking it, the whole town better worry.  It seems that there are no side effects.  I think my symptoms are from Graves.  I don't think the wellbrutrin has bad side effects.  And don't worry about becoming addicted, if it works and you feel better, find a Dr. that will know you need the script.  I also am a smoker, wish I didn't but, what can you do..........I will try to quit....again when I am more emotionally and physically stable.. Just my opinion, not a Dr. and didn't play one on TV. HA HA HA................

I've been on xanax (Alprazolam, actually) for 2 1/2 years now. It helps with the anxiety, although sometimes it doesn't help enough.

I'm not looking forward to quiting it, as I hear it is addictive. In fact, if I'm an hour late taking it, I find that my body wants it RIGHT NOW. I take it three times a day, and I've never forgotten to take it. My body tells me if I missed pill time. So I guess I'm addicted. Right now...I don't care!

I am planning on quitting smoking this Summer. Not really planning on quiting the Alprazolam until my GP forces me to.

I don't know what to tell you about antidepressants. There are so many different ones, and it seems like each person reacts to various ones differently. If it will improve your quality of life then by all means find one that works.

It MAY affect your thyroid med dose, but it's not like you haven't played "change the dose" before.

My doctors have steadfastly refused to give me antidepressants, even though I have needed them badly in the past. I still go through periods where I get worn down and then I slip into a bad depression for a few days or longer.

I honestly don't know which is worse, the depression, or trying to find a med to deal with it. My wife would probably say living with a depressed me is a lot worse than living with a medicated me. LOL!!

She's taking an antidepressant and getting along fine.

I'm afraid of them and my doctors telling me no is enough excuse for me to "deal with it". I think in the long run I am not doing myself any good by "dealing with it", and would be better off with medication.

I don't think there is any good advice in my post, but I got to talk about me a lot.
LOL!!!
:o)

Good luck with whatever decision you make.
