Allergic to Synthroid/Nu-Iron

I've recently been diagnosed with Hypothyroidism and anemia.  My TSH was 7.0 and ferritin was 28.  My physician had prescribed me synthroid and Nu-iron.  I've been taking it for about 5 weeks now and for the last few days, I've been breaking out in severe hives.  I've been trying to monitor my intake but everything but I really believe it is either the synthroid or Iron med.  I called my physician and they told me to take benedryl anytime I break out but I think this is just a quick fix to an underlying problem.  Are these hives going to go away?

Thank you for such a quick response.  I will speak to my physician and opt to not take nu-iron for a few days to see if this may be why I'm experiencing the hives.  I appreciate all the support!!  Also, Tricia, I look forward to hearing what your dermatologist says.

Hi,

I got switched from Levoxyl to Synthroid just over a month ago. . .I too get hives.  Only in my chest/neck area, so the endo thinks it may be an allergic reaction to the soapy stuff they use before surgery (I just had my thyroid out).  I think it's a reaction to the synthroid. . . I have an appointment to see my dermatologist in a few weeks, I'll let you know what happens!!  I've been taking benedryl at least once a day to battle the itchy hives!!

Good luck,
Tricia

It's true , don't take Iron and Syntroid together. Read this site (about Nu-iron, interactions, side effects, etc):
http://www.drugs.com/mtm/nu-iron.html
If you don't take both medications together:
Hives can be a possible allergic reaction, your ferritin is 28, is low but is normal, you can safely suspend for 3 days your iron medication and see if the reaction desappear. Talk to your doctor.

As far as I remember the Syntroid and Iron should not be taken togeteher. Try  to look for drug interaction.
