I have another question about weight. . . I have gained 25-30kg over the past few years with this illness. I have normalNormal saline flush thyroid levels(as seen in previous posts) and am having at TT on Feb 27th due to large goiterChronic thyroiditis (hashimoto’s disease) Goiter Graves disease Toxic nodular goiter and LOTS of symptoms of hyperHyper-sal/hypo? high antibodies etc etc. My question is (I say this with tiers in my eyes) that after reading many many posts over the last week aboutw weight gain after surgery - carbs etc, will I have a difficult time losing the weight and is there are chance I could gain more?
Another quicky - will I become hypo or hyperHyper-sal after the TT?
With no thyroid you will become hypo. After that you're doctor must find the right medicine combination for you to be able to function well. If the right combination/dosage is found you should be able to shed a few pounds as long as you eat sensibly. However, as nice as all that sounds, it's been a year for me and I'm still not able to lose the weight and I struggle with it every day. The alternative (thyroid cancer), was a much more worrisome aspect of my life. Good luck.
hi Nimrod
I can really sympathize w/the weight gain issue. I am awaiting my surgery too for TT in Feb. but I really could not stand myself and so I began to search for alternate ways of coping with all this extraExtra strength mylanta calci tabs Extra strength pain relief weight...which led me to Mary Shomon's book "the thyroid diet". I went to the barnes & nobles bought a copy and read it in a day...easy read. I put myself on her Carb sensitive diet the next day and 4 days later I have lost 1.5 lbs. and tho I am not by any means 100% I can say that I have improved a ton....
I actually have more energy and can make it through the day without to much trouble. I am immpressed! Who knew? Try it maybe it will work for you too!
Regards
Lisa
ABSOLUTLY Carb issues here, before and after TT. I have gone 1200 calorie but no fat/mostly carbs (rice and plain potato)doc diets for high cholestrol while fanatic about working out for 3 months and lost only 2 lbs with no cheating what so ever- this was before the low carb craze and I thought I was nuts and no one believed me INCLUDING the doctor-- cuz as they say... "a calorie is a calorie" HOGWASH!!!!
Yet, put me on a 1800 calorie extreme low carb diet like atkins induction and I will lose 10 lbs the firstFirst progesterone mc10 First progesterone mc5 First-progesterone vgs 100 First-progesterone vgs 200 First-progesterone vgs 25 First-progesterone vgs 400 First-progesterone vgs 50 First-testosterone First-testosterone mc week and keep up like 4/5 lbs each week after. (Want to mention here I am not that overweight- I bounce between 20-30 lbs too much and I am tall- I say this just because if someone is really overweight like 50 lbs or more this should be normal as the more you need to lose the faster it comes off in the begining, blah, blah, blah) My problem is I can do fine with no cravings if I don't have the carbs-- but once I slip up I have to have more and gain it all back quick. Last time around I was able to keep it off for about a year so it is not all water or other excuse anti-lowcarb people say.
But I believe it is just my metabilism and not all people are programmed this way. I have known others that tried low carb and couldn't loose- then try the low fat/high carb and lose it quick--- problem is THEY gain it back quick too cause they get tired of no taste, lol!
