Any Graves and Celiac people out there?

by graveswoman, Mar 24, 2009 06:53PM
I am going to be tested for Celiac at end of April, just wondering if there are others with same thing and i can ask questions if needed? I have graves, pernecious anemia, vita D. deficiency, and meniere's all autoimmune, other conditions as well, but i believe those are all associated with celiac right? If i do have it, i am thinking it could of been the culprit all along and caused these others? just a theory, one i will never know is right but…

Thanks Kim

Some researchers believe that in some patients with "Meniere's Disease," the symptoms result from some autoimmune condition (an opinion), but Meniere's Disease is "idiopathic" -- the cause is unknown.
The others are autoimmune, and it is described if people have one autoimmune disease the probability to have another is higher....

I have celiac and dairy intolerance, sjorgren's, and hasi/hypothyroid, and all sorts of allergies.  My doctor tells me it is Autoimmune Syndrome [where one is an AI thyroid problem with at least 2 other AI diseases].  There is more than one type.  Sounds like you have it too since you have so many autoimmune problems.  Type in AS and see what you can find.

To: Grave's Disease and Gluten Sensitivity/Celiac
I don't care what any test shows, I know that somehow my Graves' dz and gluten sensitivity are interrelated. I believe that diet is a huge factor in controlling both. I know that gluten sensitivity can cause inflammation of the bowel and I have had a sensitive stomach (unable to lay on my stomach at night to sleep or have a doctor press on my stomach) since I was a young girl. It is all coming together now. My stomach is inflamed. I know also when I eat foods high in fat/gluten, I can't explain it but I have this pain over my liver. I had my gallbladder out when i was 22. I just assumed it was residuals from being gb free. I know that when I take the gluten out of my diet (as well as dairy) my stomach does not hurt. I am not bloated. I also try and watch my salt content as this causes inflammation of my gut and body. It gives me a headache. I am extremely exhausted. My muscles are so weak that it is all I can do to get up and wash a few dishes or change my daughters diapers. You would think I was lazy but all I want to do is sit down I am so exhausted. I have always been an active person. I have gained almost 100 pounds from having babies and being struck with this auto-immune dz! I have also been anemic as long as i can remember, but was able to function and didn't feel this tired or weak. I going to ask my doc for B12 shots. I know she will probably resist. I wish I could find a doctor in the Austin area who was more homeopathic that was educated in this field and knew the connections between celiac/pernicious anemia and thyroid. Doctors are so busy getting patient's in and out, they are not spending enough time educating patients. When I was initially diagnosed with Grave's Dz. My endo told me I needed an RAI. Never gave me other options. I said "absolutely not!". Why would surgery be my first choice, considering i have a healthy thyroid that is just being overstimulated by my body. I would rather exhaust all options before i go and damage a body part and then be hypo for the rest of my life. I tried L-carnitine, fish oil and multi-vitamins about a year ago and took them for about 2 months. I was actually able to get up out of the floor without any joint or muscle pain. I stopped taking it (for some reason) and I went back to having these complaints. I can't pinpoint if it was all three working together or which one was specifically working.

Anybody out there with some good advice, good articles, good doctors, same situation, please email me... ***@****. It is nice to have the support b/c many times this disease makes me feel crazy! Up and down all the time. Blessings !
