Anyone changed their weight gain by not using Synthoid?

by tracycurtis, Nov 15, 2008 02:13PM
I am one of many who has experienced weight gain on Synthroid.  I was nearly 49 last year when I started it at 50mcg.  After 6 months, my doctor asked why I gained 8 lbs and based on blood results raised my dose to 75.  Last week, now nearly 50, I have gained 16 pounds total.  The last time that happened was Freshman year of college.  I have been steady with exercise, decent eating and reviously, whenever I actually thought about trimming a bit, I never had difficulty gaining that fitter feel and apearance.  Now I have the tummy and a doctor that is certain this is a coincidence of pre-menapause/age and it couldn't be the Synthroid.  Has anyone tried alternatives or the natural Thyromine and found a turn around on the weight gain coincidence?

I believe your doctor might be right. Synthroid nor armour causes weight gain. I would first start by drinking a lot of water each day that might help you out. Also you can ask for those tests to be ran to see if you are indeed pre menapause.

I gained weight on Synthroid.  My body retained massive amounts of water while I was on it.  I also had mega joint/arthritis-like pain so I switched to Levoxyl and finally back to Levothyroxine plus Cytomel.  Not all drugs work the same for everyone.  I'm a fan of trying multiple until you find the one or combo of drugs that works for you.  Some have fillers that just don't work for some particular bodies.
