I too am on Armour, I do very well on it, when I first began thyroid meds, my doctor put me on Levothyroxin, did not do well, then i changed to veloxyl I think thats what its called, but had horrible side effects from it. So I then read about Armour, and its works well so far for me, with no side effects. It all depends on what your body needs, and what works for you.
I take armour thyroid and I do fine with it. My doctor told me that he thinks it works better than the other synthetic types.
"armour thyroid which is bioidentical"
- Armour is only Bioidentical if you have hooves and a snout - its dessicated thyroid from pigs.
Dessicated thyroid works wonders for some people. Those people usually need more T3. The Armour brand itself was changed a year ago and does not work as well for some like it used to. Some forign brands are gaining popularity.
The best thyroid replacement is the one that works best for your body. Forget the natural vs synthetic argument, use what works for you.
The standard is to try synthetic T4 meds first. Then if you need more T3, add cytomel to the mix. Still have symptoms ?(even if labs look great), then go with a dessicated product.
One should take the medication that works best for them.
Armour is a great medication - however, it has a very high T3 content, and some people do not do as well with that much T3, and some do - and some need to add a little T4 to balance it out.
Some do well on synthetics (not just the one brand, which I cannot take as I am allergic to the fillers, thank you), and some need to add T3 to that one to make that work for them.
It really depends on your blood work, and what you need.
