What are those of us who rely on ArmourArmour thyroid supposed to do when we can't get the medication? According to the latest information I was able to obtain, it might be late September before it's available. I'm completely out now. I'm a littleLittle noses decongestant Little tummys upset with my Dr right now because I reordered my meds this weekend and found out I couldn't get my prescription refilled due to this backorder business. There was no way to contact her until Monday morning(today). I contacted her early this morning and have not heard anything about some other type of medication. Forget Synthroid. It does not work for me. How long can I go without my meds? I just found out last month I have A-fib. How is the lack of medication going to affect my heart? Would Synthroid and Cytomel be a good replacement? I do not understand why the manufacturer can not keep up with the production of ArmourArmour thyroid. They know we need it, so why don't they see to it there's a good supply? The people who supply the raw "material" for this must know this also, so what's their excuse? It's very upsetting.
I switched from Armour to Synthroid with Cytomel and doing good.
There are other dessicated thyroid meds out there such as Nature-throid and Westhroid, but they are about 90 days backordered because of the problems with Armour.
Soooooo I would probably ask about the Synthroid with Cytomel.
You should try compounded desicated first in my opinion. My doctor and pharmacist said we should stay as close to the meds that have been working for us until supplies are back. Word is that Armour did not follow FDA protocal and reformulated. People not doing as well on it. Try Naturethroid or Westroid when supplies are back. They are working on it, could be 90 days. If you can't find it, (I did today and yesterday, got out the phonebook) then a compounding pharmacist can help you until it's back (SUPPLY & DEMAND)
Call some smaller pharmacies. I found 2 months of generic 'Armour' by Major. I hope it dose not mess me up, it shouldn't.
I checked out some compounding places, about $80 a month for 2 grains a day, but they say they have the best set up to make it accurately.
You need to be pro-active on this as your doc most likely did not know himself what happened. Not their job to stock shelves, so you cant blame them. I told the nurse at my endo what the deal was, they had no clue.
