Armour vs natur-throid

I had my armour filled the other day and it was the new formula. I noticed about 3 days after taking it I was getting heart palpitions and could not sleep. This has never happened before I take 1 1/2 grains twice a day a total of 150mg a day. I went to my doctor the next day and told him what happened. He was not aware that armour had reformulated there pills. He said if it was slightly different I could have had a side effect to it. He did switch me to natur-throid. I am going to start taking them tommorrow. I did notice when I was on the natur-throid site that 1 grain is 65mg with there's where armour's 1 grain is 60 mg. On the conversion chart on the natur-throid site you would take the same as the armour. I wanted to know if anyone is taking the natur-throid instead of the armour and how they are doing on it? Thanks for any input.

Hi there
Appaerently I have been borderline Hypothyroid all my life without any of my Doctors taking notice of it until 2 years ago all my hormones started acting out!!!! I hit the perimenopausal stage and everything changed almost over night! My OBGYN took 19 vials of blood and tested just about everything. I received a Nature throid prescription and Thyroplex. Thyroplex while helping me to focus, lifting the "fog" from my eyes gave me Breast tenderness so I had to stop. I was going back and forth to Nature throid. Currently I am on it 1/4 grain again however I do not feel any difference. Would you please describe how and if this medication worked for you. Also how long it took until it started working please.  Thank you!

Yesterday was my first day of NT.  She started me on 1 1/2 grains.  Two hours after I took it I was feeling light headed; by lunch I was so tired I could barely move around and by 6PM I had a horrid headache.  I was in bed at 8:30PM.  I woke up with the same vicious headache this morning and dread starting the day again.  This time I will take 1 grain in the morning, and the 1/2 in the afternoon.

My experience with the switch was this. When I got my first script of NT I was "leery"

I am not a person good with change...LOL - and even through the new formula of Armour was kicking me back into hypohe// I still "thought" I could adjust.

My first script I started was one grain (65mgs) each of NT tablets. I would swing back and forth taking my Armour and then NT  during the day.  I was taking a total of 3 grains a day regardless if it was NT - or my Armour I still had.

Then one day....... I crashed and fell really hard back into hypothyroidism

I threw the bottle of Armour out and started soley on NT.

I notice the first week being ONLY on 3 grain NT that I was a bit "off" still.  By the second week I was struggling - tietering hypothyroidism and knew I needed to increase.

I went immediately to 4 grains of NT daily and got a new script of NT that the tablets were 2 grains each.

Third week - increased again another 2 grains ( which is a high amount to increase BTW) and felt absolutely wonderful and haven't looked back since.

I am on a total of 6 grains daily now. 2 grain tablets - 3 times a day. I have pushed occassionally splitting a 2 grain tablet in half and bumping up 1 more grain once in a while - right around my period time to keep me out of joint and muscle pain.

What I have found with the conversion chart comparing Armour to NT is that they are not accurate in equal dosages. If I had to look at my hypothyroidism - along with many other people that adjusted on NT - they needed to bump up their med intake by one whole grain to get the satisfaction of relieveing them of hypothyriodism.

Switching to NT for me and moving up the "their" optimal dosage for me  helped me feel more stable daily - but has also helped me drop weight that I was desperately trying to achieve.

If it was up to me - My conversion chart utilizing " 1 grain tablets" with Armour - vs - Naturethroid would be more like

Armour                           Naturethroid
60mgs                            81.25mgs

I based this more on a symptom free equasion more so than the actual grain quantity of T3 - T4 ratios.

Now I am not sure if me - goofing around with my "thought" of not wanting to let go of Armour caused me to have a few weeks of illness return - or if I needed to adjust to NT. But I have heard from alot of NT users that it took then about a week to really find NT's benefits.

NT - for me is definately more stable than the NEW Armour was. I loved the OLD Armour and wouldn't of switched if they wouldn't of changed production. In a way I am very happy they did this to Armour and I was forced to switch. I do feel really good now that I am taking the med. I am not sure if - now - the old Armour would of done this well for me.

Again - I must say to everyone that your thyroid condition must be looked at with grain increases. You can't compare my dosage and think 6 grains will be right for you. My condition of having absolutely no gland - my weight factor - my hormone balance is completely different that yours could be. 6-7 grains is alot of medicine and the average hypothyroid sufferer does not need this much to get them well. I also was hashitoxcosis during my Grave's ordeal - that was missed during RAI. That also is a factor on my condition.

I have been doing great on it. I agree with you that you should split it just like the Armour I do. What does did he start you on? I am on 1 64mg tablet and a half of a 32.8 tablet twice a day.

Hi, just following up to see how it's going.  My endo wouldn't prescribe Nature-throid so I switched doctors and finally got it yesterday.  This morning I took it and now I'm dizzy.  I'm hoping it's just an adjustment issue and that it will get better as the week goes on.  My doctor also said to take it once a day but I think I should split it just like the Armour.  How have you been doing on it; still okay?

I will let you know how it goes next week. I just started taking them today but I am only taking 1 grain which is 64.8 mg in the natur-roid twice a day instead of the 1 1/4 grain twice a day I was taking with Armour. I am going to see how I do on this dose and if I have to add the 1/4 twice a day I will. They couldn't get it in 1/4 grain so I had to get it in a 1/2 grain and will have to split it if I want to up my dose to what I was taking in the Armour. Time will tell. Don't give up you just have to keep trying. It took me over a year to even get diagnosed I had chronic headaches everyday. It was horrible but now it is getting better.

I'm calling my doctor today to try Nature-throid because I'm having issues with my eyes and a tight chest while taking Armour.  Please let me know how Nature-throid works for you as I've already been through levothyroxin, Levoxyl, Syntrhoid and Armour, and all are not working for me.  Seems like this is the last hope.
