I oftentimes wonder w/o medical backup/research if those who are predisposed to autoimmune disorders or delayed reactions to allergies and things like that get RA after RAI bcz of the shock to the system ?? Just my thoughts ... that would be my guess.
I am SO SORRY you are going thru this .... what a shame .... I hope the meds help soon. I have this severe tibial tendonitis that is really a tough one to heal and still in p/t where now the goal is to retrain the foot for life it seems as the rehab is kind of at a standstill ... they are going to train me for stairs, gait, etc. Sounds great but what about the pain factor??? My ortho says setbacks/flares are normal with this but I am losing patience.
I know how painful RA is ... I have arthritis in the ankle and on Mobic.
Hang in there and keep us posted,
Cheryl
I am still in the process of getting my meds right after a TT for thyca. My knees hurt, my feet, arms, etc. I am getting better slowly after being on 175mcg of synthroid, but I still have the joint pain. I had RAI in June.............now you have me wondering.
Oh boy.........I was just complaining about the 40's being nasty to me!! I turned 40 last November, and all of my issues started in February of this year. And all because I tried to do something good for myself. I had tried to quit smoking right around my birthday, and it was just so stressful. After reading a post on Dr. Lupo's forum, I have no doubt that the stress brought on by all of that brought out the hashimoto's. And so it goes. I just hope that year 41 is a better one.
Anyway, I feel for you. I can't chime in about arthritis after RAI because I actually just had it last week and winded up with the smallest dose they give (30mCi). I just wanted to let you know that you're not alone in the "40's STINK" club!!! ;-)

So sorry to hear that. Once these autoimmunes get ahold of us they just don't let go, do they? Personally, I'm pretty sick of them. I'm awaiting on results for Cushing's and PCOS, RA will probably be along soon with as bad as my arthritis has always been. Most drs have assumed that I had RA b/c arthritis has been part of my life since I was a small child.
Sorry, I read what you said earlier about ANAs, but honestly have no idea what that is. =(
Good luck and I hope you get some good news soon. After reading your bio would say it is definitely time for some.
I was referred to a rheumy when I was having severe joint pain accompanied with higher than normal ANAs (only 1:40 but still detectable). My rheumy is treating me with steroid injections and anti-inflammatories. She thinks I may have RA but it may be in its early stages (it's progressing quickly though). She wants to run more labs after my next RAI.
Had arthritis pretty severely before I had RAI for Graves' in 2003, but since then it has really gotten a lot worse. Do not have RA. On the forum I read where some one said that RAI causes arthritis. So in researching it found it to be true.
Wish I could give you better info on this, but don't even remember where I found it at.
Question: if you don't have RA why a rheumy? Just wondering.
Hang in there, for me the 30's ain't been so hot, either.
