BC and thyroid meds

I have been on Levothyroxine for about a month now.  Its 25 mcg.  STarting to feel some benefits like more energy, skin isnt as bad, etc..  Prior to diagnosis of an enlarged thyroid (levels are "within normal limits" but the doctor still hasnt sent me exactly what they are), I was having menstrual problems- long, heavy periods.  I had a D & C in August was was put on BC pills (Yaz) to help keep things under control.  The first month was great.  My period came exactly on the 28th day, lasted 4 days, not heavy.  The next month was a tiny bit more, lasted 5 days.  Last month lasted 7 days.  The flow hasnt been nearly as bad as before.  Anyway, my period is not due for 8 days, and I started today.  I have felt like I had PMS all week, but then attributed that to a lot going on in work and at home.    Anyway, I am wondering if there is an interaction between the thyroid med and the BC pills.  Any experience or thoughts are much appreciated!  Since its Saturday, I can't reach my doctor till Monday.

The answer is yes. Estrogen is a thyroid hormone receptor: it attaches itself to free t3 hormones, the active thyroid hormone and the important one. BC causes lower FREE T3, free meaning that they are available for use by your body.

1) Test your Free T3. Make sure it is in the top of the range.
2) get off BC! This is BAD for hypo women.
3) have FERRITIN checked and make sure it is above 60. Lower than this will result in heavy periods
4) Switch to Armour thyroid and experience normal cycles without the cramps. Only this year, I am 36, have I had normal bleeding without the pain due to taking Armour instead of Synthroid!

What about your pathology report for the D&C specimen?

Before the thyroid was diagnosed, I was diagnosed with adenomyosis, which was the cause of the heavy flow.

I'm on synthroid and YAz. im not sure wy you're having thos eissues, I'd wait and talk to your doctor. Your synthroid dosage and bc dosage might not be compatible.
