Beta Blockers PRN??

I have just recently been dx with thyroid toxicosis due to hyperthyroid (most likely Graves' but won't say until uptake is back).  Both my PCP and the endo said to take my BB regularly but PRN if HR is okay?  Is that right?  Do you take them as needed?  I forgot my PM dose tonight (took all day) and now am feeling pain in the thyroid and pulse pounding.  I can't take them until I get home from work but wondering if I should be careful to skip them again.

Also, how likely is thyroid storm with Graves and a thyroidectomy?  I am leaning towards that choice althought my doctor left it up to me between that and RAI.  He would not give me an answer when I asked "if I was a family member what would you say?"

Thanks,
Mel

So I have to be on anti-thyroid meds?  I saw my endo but he only placed me on BB and told me to make a decision on RAI or TT; I have my scan on Wed so I assume I will decide then.  Am I guaranteed to go into storm if I don't take anti-thyroid meds?  Only BB?  Now I am worried.  What does thyroid storm feel like?

No-one can really make that desision for you in regards to permanant treatment..that is something you will ave to decide yourself.
In regards to the beta blockers.....instead of taking them in one dose....split the dose up and that way , they wont zonk you out.
At one stage I was on 80mg daily so I took mine 4 times a day.
I found that it kept the racing pounding heartrate at bay.

I suffered thyroid storm 3 times in 2 weeks prior to RAI and wouldnt wish that on my worst enemy.
It can cause death.

Research all you can about Graves and Hyperthyroidism and make sure you take thebeta blockers and anti-thyroid meds.
Without them you will go into thyroid storm.
