Bloating

Curious about bloating.....if you were not bloated prior to taking thyroid meds but become extremely bloated about 1-2 weeks after taking them....what causes that? This has happened several times to me (when being place on thyroid meds).  Bloating does not exist prior to meds and went away when I went off meds?????  Dr. said it was from being slightly hypo but I do not believe that and know that is was not like that weeks and weeks before when levels were actually higher!  Any ideas???

I know!  I agree....but they actually put me on meds when my levels were in the normal range (almost normal....TSH was around a 3.8 and other levels were mid range).  They said that it would help stabilize the thyroid and manage my disease better. It was a big mistake....the meds made everything worse.  I have been off for over a year and have been doing great. My levels just went very hypo a few weeks ago.....they are shifting back to normal again though already.  They want me to restart meds but I am worried that I will feel bloated and worse like before:(  I have not done very well with meds but I have only tried synthroid.

I can't imagine your doctor taking you completely off med because your levels had stabilized -- the whole point of being ON med is "keep" your levels stabilized.  If you were going hyper, simply lowering the med should have been sufficient; now you have to start all over again.

The Dr. took me off.....because I was going hyper and my levels had normalized for a while. Now it is time to go back on.  Wondering if I should try tirosent?

I also bloated substantially when I started on Synthroid.  Prior to that, I never had any issue with stomach weight, weight in general, or constipation.  Within two weeks of starting the Synthroid, my stomach looked like I was four months pregnant, and going to the bathroom was a feat.  Was recently switched to Tirosint, and I'm waiting to see how that goes.  I felt pretty horrible for two days now, feeling a touch better today, but have been going to the bathroom like I used to, which is great, and so far, I've not experienced any bloating.  Did you go off the meds because the doctor advised you, or because you decided to on your own?

It has happened in the past with Synthroid.....they want to restart me again on the meds and I know the bloating will come. I am not bloated right now but the last two times I added Synthroid....it looked like I was a few months pregnant!

Which meds are you going on and off from?  Bloating is common when hypo; as is constipation, which can cause the bloating.
