My OB/GYN , who ordered the blood work said my thyroid function is fine. I have searched online and can't really find anything that says if it is or isn't. Not that I don't trust my Dr., but it seems to be a better DX if your function is off.
I wanted to add that I am not saying thyroid disease of any kind is a 'good' diagnosis. But from what I have read, cancer is more likely if your thyroid function is normalNormal saline flush.
You are a little on the hyper side, but if you feel fine then it is a normal result for you. I wouldn't focus too much on the normal thyroid functions meaning cancer is more likely. There is still a heck of a lot of research needed when it comes to thyroid.
Everyone so called normal tests can be totally different, when one person is at the lower end they feel no problems, yet someone else can be totally debilitated...so it really is a personal judgement. I felt totally dead with a TSH of 11.5 yet someone else said they were great at that!
The best diagnosis firstly is the patient themselves...if they have symptoms and the tests come back normal then it is time to investigate further.
So like I said, if you feel fine, then you are fine, and don't worry about the cancer part. You could have many other cancer areas in your body and still be normal too, with blood tests. Just one of those things.
Thank you! What you said really makes sense, everyone's body is different ....so 'normal' will be slightly different for everyone.
Today the Endo said I am on the 'high end of normal', so he ordered an RAI uptake/scan assuming my enlarged thryoid is due to hyperthyroidism. I am not having any symptoms of hyper other than fatigue, but I have attributed that to having four daughters, a husband , and very little sleep :).
I have lived with Thyroid issues for many years. TSH may not be accurate is some people, including myself. My Endo, cares about Free T-3 and Free T-4. And, yours seems to be just fine.
You said, "cancer is more likely if your thyroid function is normal."
Why are you even worried about cancer. What kind of cancer are you concerned about?
Kathy
Thank you for your help. I'm concerned due to a 2.3 cm hypoechoic nodule found during US. Everything I have read online and in books says 'hypoechoic' is more likely to be malignant. Also, while researching- it seemed to be that abnormal thryoid hormone results were a good sign that nodules may be benign.
I am probably jumping to conclusions. I'm just nervous and the waiting around for appts. and test results is making me crazy.
That's what I was trying to say.

Thanks again,

Also, I'm unclear as to what makes me hyper? Is it the low TSH?
Thank you,
Michelle
