Bloods now abnormal. Could it be Pregnancy? Sorry Big read

by scotslasszoe, Nov 10, 2009 05:03AM
this year i noticed a large mass in my neck. Went to Gp and in May was reffered to specialist. Has my TSH and Free T4 checked in May and results as follows

TSH 0.44 Ranges 0.2 - 4.5...

Free T4 12. Ranges 9 - 21

Have had 2 Inconclusive biopsys on the 4cm solid nodule tho some hurthle cells were found and am due to have surgery to remove left lobe after baby is born in April and i am being monitored every 4 weeks by surgeon until then...

I have still not been feeling great since i noticed this nodule and heart palpitations have been getting worse. so went back to docs on friday to have them repeat bloods

She just called me to say they have came back abnormal. She said my TSH is now 0.04 and said Free T4 within range. She did not tell me what it was tho... She advised she called the hopsital and they said that because i am pregnant that is prob why my TSH showing at this level but want doctor to now do T3....

Kinda angry as i thought they would have at least re checked my bloods before now i did not know my lab results taken in may till a few weeks ago and it was me who noticed they were within range but on the lower side... Not sure if the nodule is causing this? if these results are leading to Hyper or Hypo?

Anyone have any thoughts or what i should be doing or saying to surgeon when i see him on the 23rd? do u think they might be correct about the results and me being pregnant.. I thought in pregnancy ur thyroid worked harder so that would mean a higher TSH? not sure

Seems weird as the Thyroid ultra sound said the Nodule was cold. I am going to nurse for blood test today so will find out what my Free T4 was.. Kinda confusing as i have mixed symptoms Hypo and Hyper.

Racing heart
Weight Lose and Weight Gain
Bad Diareha (spelling)
Thinning hair
Brittle nails
Tiredness/ No energy
Severe Headaches
Severe mood swings. I thought i has Chronic PMS which i have never had before. then found out i was pregnant and put it down to that lol.. Poor hubby suprized he still with me...

have also Noticed that i am becoming Anemic which i did in my other 2 pregnancies but not till i was in week 30+ i am 16 weeks now so early for me this time.

labs from 16th Oct09

HB 112 range 115 - 165

RBC 3.7 Range 3.8 - 5.8

Hct 0.33 Range 0.37 - 0.47

That was a month ago so will ask for that to be rechecked when i see midwife 2moro (weds)

Do you think i should ask for a repeat Ultra Sound on Nodule? to see if it is now hot and has grew? as to me it has grown slightly

Thanks for letting me rant. Just feeling kinda low about it all been going on for 2 long

I certainly understand why you're confused!! This is puzzling. Did you have the thyroid issue before you became pregnant? Your symptoms and bloodwork seem like Hyper. Being pregnant complicates all this, I would think ?? I hope you find some answers here...lots of helpful members are here, sorry I don't have the knowledge to answer you...I would be just as confused as you are....Although I do think you need to make sure they look at ALL the possibilities, a full thyroid panel seems like a good idea, you don't want to mess with this when you're pregnant!! What does your Gyno/Obyn have to say?

Hi this all started before i became pregnant since begining of this year not been feeling myself.. Found Nodule in about March after 2 docs appointments and being told it was just a goitre i was sent to specialist... I mentioned my thyroid investigation to midwife around 7 weeks ago but she said she didnt know much about those kinda things... Going to see her again 2moro. I am leaving in 10 mins to have T3 blood done so will get the Free T4 result from last week.

Thanks

Zoe

With your symptoms, sounds like your body is swinging hypo to hyper. I would ask for the TGab and TPOab antibody tests to determine if you have thyroid disease causing this. You need to get your TSH, FT3, FT4 tests at least monthly. You should be treated with thyroid meds if your Frees drop again, especially since you are pregnant.

Just looking at your symptoms, is a lot what I went through last spring. I have Hashimoto's, but I thought I had Graves. Hashi antibodies attack the thyroid, causing the thyroid to have these little explosions, creating nodules, which in turn leak hormone. When the nodules leak, depending on the size of the nodule and how much hormone leaks, people with Hashimoto's swing from hypothyroid to hyperthyroid, and we go on this wild roller coaster ride until these nodules get under control either by surgery or medication.

My doc put me on Synthroid, and the nodules shrunk to pencil points. I don't have those wild hyper swings any longer. If there are too many nodules, or they are too big, docs recommend surgery.

Take care...

aww what a nightmare for u Tamra...

Just found out my new T4

13 range is 9 - 21 so withing range again... Interesting to see what T3 says

So if T3 within normal range also. what would cause my TSH to be 0.04

Would have thought endo would have asked for the antibosy bloods to be repeated when the doctor called him yesterday.

Could it be a Pituitary problem?

Thanks again

Just got a call from doctor.. she said the specialist called her to say my T3 is a little high

4.3 i asked what the range was she said up to 2.3

then she said the specialist now wants to do the free T3. I was like ffs more waiting. So does this mean i am Hyper? she said oh not sure till we get Free T3 result back which should be monday... if they normal we will send you to a cardiologist.

She said that the nodule might now be producing xtra hormone. But the specialist thinks that its prob just because am pregnant and will be nothing to worry about.

I had the 4cm solid nodule scanned by ultra sound in end of june/july as was told it was a cold nodule...

Can anyone advise what i should be looking for my Free T3 to be at?

Does it sound to you like i am Hyper thyroid? grrrr what a pain in the neck. Just really frustrated..
