Can I "cure" my hypothyroidism?

I just found out last night in the ER that I have hypothyroidism. Is it "curable" or am I reduced to having to take medicines for it for the rest of my life?

TSH Scrn 13.845
T4 FREE 1.0

I have a lot of other results but I don't know what they mean:
WBC 8.4
RBC 4.63
HGB 13.6
HCT 40.3
MCV 87.2
MCHC 33.7
RDW 13.1
PLT 315
MPV 7.4
Segs 59.6
Lymphs 31.7
Mono 6.4
Eos 1.9
Baso 0.4
Sodium 137
Potassium 3.9
Chloride 102
Carbon Dioxide 30
Glucose 99
BUN 11
Creatinine 0.7
BUN/Creat 17
Calcium 9.8
eGFR (nonAfrAm) *>60
eGFR (AfrAm) *>60

(The last two, I assume they didn't do.)

Your THS is high and your FT4 is low. You should see an Endo to also have your FT3 and antibodies checked.
Can I ask why you were in the ER?
If your diagnosed with being hypo then you will probably have to take meds every day for the rest of your life.
Sorry I could'nt help with your other results but there are more experienced members here that I"m sure can help you. Take care. Remar

Hi,

in some cases hypothyroid is transient and your thyroid can recover.  But mostly it will require medication for life, which will effectively 'cure' the problem.

I don't know the meaning of the other tests because you didn't state the normal ranges.

Why did you go to the ER?  What were your symptoms?
