Can anyone give me an idea of what this means?

by KLockhart, Oct 16, 2009 03:31PM
I'm 21 yrs old. I had hyperthyroid symptoms, blood work came back confirming that. I haven't been able to get to an endocrinologist yet, but I will be going next week. According to the sonogram I have multi-nodular goiter. My doctor couldn't really tell me anything, so I am just trying to look into it on my own till I can get to the endo. I have to babies, and this is freaking me out. I know my mom almost died from graves disease when she was around my age. Should I be concerned about cancer?

The test results read-

Findings- The thyroid found was found to be moderately enlarged. The right lobe measures 5.0x2.2x2.0 cm and the left 5.3x2.7x1.9cm. The echogenicity is heterogeneous and there are multiple tiny nodules within both lobes. The sonographic appearance is that of a multi-nodular goiter.

Impression- Moderately enlarged and heterogeneous thyroid. There are multiple small bilateral nodules. The sonographic appearance is that of a multi-nodular goiter.

Thanks in advanced!
