I have hashimoto's.....I went gluten-soy free.
I lost weight, swelling went away and sleep better.
Aches and pains went away. No constipation, normal digestion, no bloating & gas.
I read EVERY LABEL....soy is in everything!
Today I had a packet of tuna, with diced red bell peppers, onions and cucumbers for lunch....
2 hr's later I was light-headed! Thyroid now swollen.
Read the packet....
tuna and SOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hate soy!
I was hyper with Graves and allergic to seafood.
After avoiding all iodine because of being hyper most of the time, I found something weird after RAI.
My levels are good, been stable for some time now but find that when I eat fish (especially grilled fish), I feel shocking....like a mack truck has run me down.
I have found this twice in the last 4 weeks.
It upsets my stomach and I feel like I want to vomit from it about an hour after consuming it.
I am beginning to wonder if I am allergic to fish now.
No big deal with me but I love fish.
I get no ill effects with tuna (canned).
Weird??
Any ideas?
Yes ,soy and other vegetables, like broccoli, cabbage, turnips, strawberries, ect,
can affect thyroid , but i read if you eat a lot of those, and every day, so probably we need to alternate food, and not to eat the same food daily.
We can drink some organic soy milk, with a good granola cereal, and is healthy, other day we can use Almond milk, or Rice milk, and so.
For me healthy diet is very important, because normally people with Hashimoto's, sometimes don't have enough energy, and eating good and healthy food can help a lot...it does for me.
I wish you all the best on you Thyroid treatments, and God bless you all !!

That's a good question ChitChat, curious too.
Does ones laranyx swell when the thyroid swells or just self-limited to thyroid .. just curious here.
C~
What does it feel like when you eat soy and your thyroid swells? I'm allergic to soy and am curious if the reactions I have could be thyroid related.
FYI...Lindseyrae; soy is in many, many foods (where you least expect it)...you may be eating soy without realizing it.

I think allergy isn't the reason for thyroid swelling, but soy can interfere with your thyroid as margretto said. I was just saying the possible cause of your EOS being 6.
In your blood analyses your eosinophyles were border line high, in your case is connected to an allergic reaction (because of your food allergies), it self doesn't mean anything. Nothing to worry.
So being allergic to foods and eating them will cause what?
I don't eat soy. I can't eat alot of dairy. And can't eat shellfish at all.
That's was the reason your EOS were high
Soy can interfere with your thyroid and can cause a goiter and low thryoid production.
Pls be certain it is your thyroid and not your airway at all ... allergies can cause anaphylaxis where the airway closes off ... does this happen at all? Be sure to tell your doctor and I'd get allergy tested for sure with soy ....
And, also that the others mention about idodine ... see if there is a correlation there, too!

I can not eat shellfish and dairy. I can't use iodine either. I got this from my grandmother who also had a goiter. Weird huh....
Sometimes too much iodine based foods will do this.
When I consume soy my thyroid swells and burns. Also there is a list of foods that hypos should not consume that will affect absorption of thyroid hormones. They probably would cause some type of thyroid reaction in some people....everyone reacts differently. I unfortunately seem to react.....lol
