If you have Graves.,....the TSI will pick it up and the uptake scan shows the thyroid to be VERY hungry.
I dont know about other countries but anything over 33% here (Australia) on the Uptake Scan is usually Graves.
Yep - no Graves diag can be made based off TSH - There is however a TSHab tests that can detect antibodies and then follow a TSI - but in most cases as Deb said - they skip the TSHab and go right to uptake scan and TSI testing.
TSH doesnt show Graves ...TSI shows Graves (thyroid stimulating Immuniglobulins.)
Everyone both hyper and hypo, graves and hashis have TSH ..even normal people with no thyroid issues have a TSH.
Maybe you have mistaken TSH for TSI when they are in actual fact different blood tests.
You can have a normal FT4 and a high FT3 which is T3 Toxycosis or thyroiditis.
Normallly unmedicated Graves patients have a HIGH FT4, HIGH FT3 and a LOW TSH....with antibodies showing on the TSI test.
Hope that helps :)
