Cancerous Nodule in the Isthmus

Hi, my mother was just recently diagnosed with cancer of the isthmus. I was hoping if you could tell me more about it (the symptoms, treatments, success rates for women in their 50s). Thank you! Your help will be greatly appreciated.

This is a very old thread and the original posters are no longer active on the forum.  It's unlikely that you will get a response, other than mine.

I dont think he said that it wouldn't spread. MANmom said, '  If she has the most common cancer (papillary) with no spread Stage 1, her chances are almost 100%." meaning that "if" it hadn't spread, her chances are nearly 100%.

Look at this site to inform yourself: http://www.medicinenet.com/thyroid_nodules/article.htm

Thanks for your answer! We just found out it was papillary and it is around 1.8cm in diameter. You said, that if it is papillary, it wouldn't spread? Thanks again! :)

Well, it all depends on the stage of the cancer and the type.  If she has the most common cancer (papillary) with no spread Stage 1, her chances are almost 100%...if it is medulary, not so good, that one is very aggressive.  They will probably remove her thyroid which she can live without...more information would help me tell you more.  Please add type of cancer, size of the tumor, stage, etc. and I can help you more.
