Cetral Hypothyroidism??

I have been battling with the most of the Classic hypothyroid symptoms except I have a fairly normal menstrual cycle (it seems to be starting to be a little longer than 28d the last few cycles)

TSH .92  ref(.45-4.67)
FT4 .51 L  ref(.71-1.85)
FT3 3.4  ref(2.4-4.2)

Cholesterol over 300 but i haven't had it tested in years (I was 130lbs when it was tested)

After my results came back my doctor said my results were normal except my T4 was low but that didn't mean anything because TSH is the only reliable test.

He told me that I needed therapy for Libido and that the thyroid had nothing to do with it, same with depression (I just have spouts of depression and a little rage.)

I have had 25 lbs weight gain in 4 months (never in my life have I been overweight until now) he said even though I excersize and eat well I must be taking in more calories than I think.

he didn't go into other symptoms I had, just said he was sorry he was so unhelpful. I left crying.

WHAT WOULD YOU RECOMMEND?
COULD IT BE CENTRAL HYPOTHYROID?
what medications are best to treat Central Hypo?

Your Free T4 must be a fluke, or a lab error. If the T4 was acurate, your Free T3 would be lower and your TSH would be higher.

Have you had your adrenal glands checked out? Adrenal Fatigue can produce symptoms similar to hypothyroidism. Certain drugs, like some anti-deppressants, can cause adrenal problems.

If you tried any medication designed to treat Central Hypothyroidism, you would likely become ill very quickly.

I would go see another doctor, and ask for tests on the adrenals, and also a re-test of your Free T4. If the Free T4 test came back that low again, I would ask for a referral to an Endocrinologist.

The Free T4 test is not inacurate or unreliable, unless the lab you are using screws it up every time. The doctor just said that because he didn't know what else to say.
