Change in meds

greetings - i'm new to the forum.
have been taking 150 mcg Eltroxin for close to 20 years. there were periods where i was taking as much as 300 mcg. my doc recentlly increased my daily meds to 175 mcg - but since Eltroxin did not come in this size, i was switched to Synthroid.
after 4 days on 175 mcg of synthroid, i am flat out in bed - aches all over my body and every inch of my skin hurts. not coughing or sneezing so doubt it is the flu. possible that it is the brand change? or the dose increase? or am i in left field?
will check with my doc tomorrow but interested in knowing if this could be cause.
many thanx

thanx for your response, barb135..

i am hypo after having my thyroid removed via Radioactive Iodine back in the early 90s.
my doc increased the dosage because my latest lab results showed a drop in TSH - i believe it was 8.. i don't have the other info at this time..
i hope it is flu (altho i did get the H1N1 flu shot) because that will go away. but i will get the other info and post it asap.
cheers and thanx again

I'm not familiar with eltroxin, but it's very possible that it could be a combination of both the dosage change and brand change.  Or you could have a touch of the flu -- I had a bout of flu a while back and didn't have coughing/sneezing either; just fever and the body aches - felt like I was gonna die.  My doctor later told me that most likely it was H1N1, but since I wasn't tested, I guess I'll never know.

Why did your doctor increase your dosage?  What are your latest lab results for TSH, FT3 and FT4?  Would be great if you could post the results along with the reference ranges from your lab, since those are lab specific.  Also list any other tests that have been run.  Do you have Hashimoto's?

Sorry to answer your question with more questions, but it's hard to comment specifically without the information.
