Has anyone noticed any changes in thier skin? I noticed a dark patchAllergy testing Skin color - patchy near my elbowElbow pain a while ago, it kinda looked like a dry skin. Ive noticed it on my handsHand or foot spasms Hand tremor to, its not noticable to the eye but I can see it. I remember one time my endo checked my skin and said he was looking fr any changes in my skin. I did not know what he was loking for. Could this be it?
Could be, talk to your endo. My skin went through hyperHyper-sal to very, very hypo, and back to very hyperHyper-sal within a few months and I went through dry, oily, cracking, acne . . . you name it. It's amazing what thyroid hormones do to the skin. Check with your endo next visit.
i also have dark patchesAllergy testing Skin color - patchy on my skin - i got most of them after taking thyroxine (i've been hyper from the thyroxine), they look like dark brown patches that could even be lots and lots of freckles or something. i went to the doctor and she told me it was a birthmark (even though i only got it a year ago!!), but the endocrinologist said it was from thyroid. The brown patches suck, they kept getting bigger but when i reduced my dose they seemed to slow down.
i couldnt tell if yours are the same as mine without seeing them but, and i cant connect my camera to this computer to take a photo of mine (not sure if i could put a picture on here anyway)
jd2 your patches sound just like mines. They resemble smal dark freckles that form a patch and they are dry looking. I am not on any meds though, I have been dealing with my throid stmptoms since 2004 with no meds to help. My eno has only wanted to moniter me and everytime, I go see him he just listens to how I say Im feeling but has never once told me any usefull information. And when I see something different about my skin, like I had gottenreal bad acne that I couldnt contol. I assumed it was just adult acne and never knew my thyroid could cause that. I started going to a dermotologist and haveimproved a lot. With my lack of knowledge taht I had and still kinda have, anything that not normal to me worries me. But know that I know that it could be caused by my thyroid it does make me feel a little better.
hi annette!
what did your dermatologist do for the brown patches? i would love to try and get rid of them but think it may be something i have to live with unfortunately! (just hope they dont get bigger!!)
my endocrinologist was pretty sure mine were from thyroid and didnt seem to think there was anything i could do for them
The dermotologist only trreatded my scne problems. I still have the patches. I am going to 2 more Endo's in April to see if they can do more for me than my current Endo. I didnt have them when my first endo checked for them, they just recently appeared a couple of months ago.
would you please post another message on here after you have been to the other endos about your skin, telling me what they said?
the skin patches are the least of my worries at the moment - so i havent been trying to do anything about them, and the doctors have told me there's nothing i can do for them. i did find though that the brown patches get larger the more hyperthyroid i am (lower tsh). i hope you have more luck!
im not sure about the acne, coz ive been lucky and have never really got it much but i have found that i have really bad allergies at the moment and certain foods will give me pimples.
sorry i forgot - have you had your TSH etc tested by the doctor? coz treatment could possibly help your skin - im not sure but. my doctors also just listened to my symptoms and didnt do anything - they didnt even realise i had a thyroid problem until my mum asked them to test me, so it could be worth getting tested if they havent already done it
Ive had my tsh checked it is very low.19 was the highest since Ive been tested, my T3 and T4 is always within normal ranges.I will let you know what my nest endo says.
you poor thing i felt terrible when my tsh was 6. (i think it should be round 1)
you should really try and find a doctor who will treat you!!!
good luck!!
