Cold feeling in head?

by daem0n, Oct 10, 2009 09:15PM
Lately (the past week) I've been getting weird head rushes like a cold feeling in the back of my head like cold water is being pumped into my brain and pressure on my sinus, and my heart palpatates at times. I've started to feel weaker but I still have energy, also I can not for the hell of me sleep at night anymore (staying awake until 6/7am).

I was on 25mg of Eltroxin for the past 5-6 years but last year it was notched up to 50mg because I stopped taking the pills (long story). I haven't had a blood test since March, so could my TSH have possibly dropped?

I took 65mg today and I feel slightly better but the 'cold' feeling in my head is still there.. it's started to worry the hell out of me. I don't have money to visit the doctor (student and any money I get goes straight for college) but I'm going to get bloods taken on Monday.

Long story short;
Does anyone else get strange head rushes/cold feelings coming up from the back of the neck?
Does anyone else get palpatations? (This happening even when thyroid levels were normal)
What should I ask to be checked in the blood tests? (Apart from the obvious T4, FT4)

Thanks!

I don't know what your levels have been in the past. 'Normal' is not always cut and dry. What is normal TSH for one may not be for another.

Tests needed:
TSH
FT4
FT3

Why do you take Eltroxin? Have you ever been diagnosed with Hashimoto's? If you suspect a goiter or pressure/pain from your thyroid, then request the antibody blood tests:
TGab and Anti-TPO.

I got the pain in the back of the neck/base of skull last year. It was so bad, I felt like a bobble head doll with a head too heavy to support my neck. Very weird feeling. I do know now from a thyroid ultrasound that I have a goiter. I also now from my Anti-TPO test that the goiter was caused by Hashimoto's. I have not gotten the pain since starting my meds. Maybe you just need your medication adjusted, but if you experiment with the dosage yourself, then get the blood test, the doctor will not know how much dosage to give you if you're not on a consistent amount.
