by Ga7, Apr 19, 2008 12:21PM
Ive been on here for a year now,,since I was put back on meds last year after have TT 25 ears ago,,my TSH over the past had been around 120,and I had not symtoms over that time frame, till my doctor insisted I return to taking my Meds again,,then all went down hill after a few days on them,,Started on the 25mcg Synthroid brand and worked my way up to 175,,TSH was at 1.0 Free T4 was 1.9..Stress caused me to have nervous fit,,So back down to 150, after six weeks test came back from my endo at TSH 0.88 Free T4 1.8,,still having fits and very tired,,Two days later I had a Job phycsical and my labs came back at TSH 1.8 and  T4 was 11.7 Ref 4.5-12.0,,and T3 uptake was 33 ref 24-39,free T4 was 3.9 ref 1.2-4.9.What is the deal,,It was done by different labs,,which one should I go by,,I think I might need to lower dose again,,I know then numbers look good, but I was Hypo for so long with no symtoms, my body might like higher numbers,,Also my cortasol came back low, after I was told it was good all year, now after all this time he wantsa ATCH uptake test,,Cortasol at 8am was 8.2 ref 4.0-22.0, and my Glucose was up to 106 ref 65-99 on Endos test and 92 on Physical test same range

On the ACTH test that was a good call on your doctor. If you adrenals are in failure mode (which that is why your cortisol is low) then this test would prove the Dx of adrenal failure.

If this becomes the case the HC will be given in smaller doses to help the adrenals start functioning again - then your thyroid meds will balance - then your symptoms will leave eventually. Your thyroid (medically induced) - may show normal levels - but if your adrenals do not work right - you won't feel right with thyroid symptoms.

This is what I think - if I read right you say you had no meds after a TT - I believe you felt good b/c your adrenals were kicking in on HIGH gear and was supporting the thyroid hormones and not just doing its job. So - after time went by - they got tired and exhausted - then you start feeling really bad - so thyroid meds were given and the adrenals were still ignored.
Finally a test (cortisol) was looked at and showed abnormal levels. Now the next step you are in is the ACTH - I would be surprised if this doesn't show up abnormal as well.  If you get the Dx of adrenal failure there are things you need to do to support those to function. If you wish you could try Vit C in small dose start 1000mcg each dy for a while - but if you are looking for an actual Dx then I would wait and see what the ACTH result is.
