Hi,
Thanks for your response!
Sorry I forgot to mention that I also have Celiac Disease, that is why I mentioned speaking to a Gastro doctor as well. Because of Celiac and nutritional issues, I've had all my levels checked recently. A lot of my vitamins like B and D are low normal, but nothing is under reference range. Could this alone have caused the damage to my thyroid?
did I miss why a GI doc is involved... what's going on there?
on question 1 that's not an easy answer. T3 is a very sensitive hormone and contributed to numerous things if you are not at your individual level. I happen to be one that needs very high T3 on those labs to maintain wellness where is some that have my numbers would be miserably hyper
on 2 - The thyroid is complex and is the master gland of many things. Tons of stuff can cause the thyroid to malfunction and many can find looking at deficiencies and correcting them can help put things back in check.
If the D is LOW that is a huge link to thyroid - the B's are another and the immune system is linked also. On hard minerals... selenium, magnesium, iodine, zinc, iron and copper levels are improtant too.
If you have solid proof your D is low - I would certainly check that out and get that back in shape then retest thyroid and see if things get better with symptoms.
Hi,
Unfortunately, my GP and Gastro doctors both told me that they are normal. The only doctor who was concerned was my oncologist who said ferritin between 50-80 is considered reduced and normal is only over 80, which is also what my lab report says. She also said B12 should never be in 200's. She told me to consult GP about it, but she keeps telling me not to worry. My vitamin D is normal, but on the low end (i forgot the number sorry).
As far as the thyroid goes, I have a few questions:
1. I know some labs show Free T3 limits in the 4's and I've seen other posts of people having high free T3 in the 4's. It just so happens my lab has a higher range, but isn't this on the high side? Only reason I ask is I did have symptoms of hyper because I was just put on betablockers for sinus tach episodes of 250+, lost 10lbs in last 2 months without trying, anxiety and feeling fatigued. I know these symptoms could be anything, but I wanted to be sure. I know my TSH is far from hyper, but why would T3 be on high end?
2. I agree my thyroid labs don't look alarming. Is there any reason why my thyroid would be showing mild coarse texture and be so asymmetrical in size. The volume of the left lobe is very small and right lobe is near high end. Just curious as to why my thyroid appears unhealthy on ultrasound, but so good on labs.
Thanks a lot!!!
yes - I would say those are OK labs - for me those would be OK.
B12 = is low.... anyone mention that?
You may certainly want a Vit D test too as soon as possible.
Hi,
I finally got the lab results faxed to me. My Endocrinologist and GP both said my labs are fine and since I tested negative for the antibodies, they feel my thyroid is healtyhy They are going to do an FNA of the thyroid nodule because I pushed for it, but said the coarse echotexture and asymmetrical size is nothing to worry about. I finally got my lab work faxed to me, I guess is does look normal, but there just has to be a reason for the way my thyroid is. I know it is also unrelated but both my doctors say my B12 and Ferritin are good, but they don't look great to me. Anyways, let me know if you have any input.
Thanks.
Lab
----
TSH- 1.49 mIU/L (range 0.35 - 4.0)
Free T3- 5.2 pmol/L (range 2.4 - 5.5)
Free T4- 17 pmol/L (range 12 - 22)
B12- 286 pmol/L (range 220 - 1000)
Ferritin- 72 ug/L (range 80=Normal)
The FNA really won't do a whole lot except rule out suspecious cells.
Get the lab report and we'll go from there on what you may have going on.
Hi,
My Microsomal AB and Thyroglobulin AB both came back negative. As far as my TSH/F3/F4 go, I'd have to request a copy from my Endo as I am just going by his word that all is normal right now.
I have been told that Anti-TPO has taken over Microsomal AB, that is why I ask if I need TPO done.
I also have been scheduled for a FNA of my thyroid nodule in December, will this be able to tell if their is underlying thyroid disease as I am confused as to why my thyroid is slightly coarse.
Thanks.
Can you post the actual labs you have done...
Yes those should be the same lab to say if you could have Hashimoto. Did you have that done?
