Constantly changing dose

by ajr81, May 01, 2008 10:35AM
About 3 years ago, I went to the doctor because I noticed that I had an irregular heartbeat.  It turned out that I had hypothyroidism (as well as high blood pressure).  I was put on 50 mcg of Synthroid.  Ever since then I have had to increase the Sythroid dose about every 3-6 months.  I am currently on 125mcg and again it was discovered that I have an irregular heart beat (PVC's).  I am 26 years old and I have a strong family history of both thyroid conditions and high blood pressure.  I am told that my thyroid condition could be causing the PVC's.  My question; Is it typical to keep increasing the dosage of thyoid medication as frequently as I have?  Is it time to see a thyroid specialist or does it just take a few years to get the thyroid regulated?  Thanks for your help.

doctors usually start you off on a small dose then test every few months and slowly increase untill your levels are ok and you feel better and can take months before you feel the benefits of being on the right dose do you know what your blood results are? if you dont feel that you are improving speak to your doctor about seeing an endo
