Convince me I'm okay

I just want to hear from someone who has had a swollen gland on the side of the neck and a huge, swollen thyroid lobe that feels like it wants to burst through the neck. I need to hear positive stories about the lymph nodes being benign. I know that's usually not a good sign. Also, I have a small one in front of my ear on same side. The nurse said not to worry unless it got bigger!! I am afraid to take a shower or look in a mirror, I am TERRIFIED I am going to find more. I can't even scratch anything. And that makes me itch! I just need good stories tonight!!

Thank you so much for that info!!! That's what I want to hear. I have never had a swollen node before aside from the usual strep throat kind under jaw, so you can imagine the fear I am having. I want to hear stories of swollen glands being absolutley nothing, although with the one in front of my ear swollen too, I'm not sure I can be convinced! I searched on here all over and most stories were okay on the swollen gland pages. Usually everything is okay, but there has to be that one person who has the unfortunate diagnosis. And we all assume it's going to be us,lol. Thanks!!

A friend of mine had a 2 inch lymphnode on his neck that FNA came back suspicious so they took it out and it was completely benign.

Good luck!

Thank you so much. I know for sure my lobe is large and is causing my tightness and all those other symptoms. But it hadn't occured to me my gland is just inflamed (mine is actually on the side of my neck, not under ears),possibly due to lobe pressing on it?! I try to create benign things to comfort myself. I know i can't be the only one who thinks cancer when anything is unusual. And I have never ever had a gland on my neck swell except for the ones under jaw during strep throat. I wasn't even afraid of nodules until the gland swelled. I am just a paranoid freak, but judging from other entries, I am not the only one, thank goodness. When you spend most of your childhood losing your mother to cancer, I guess you'll always be afraid you'll do the same to your own kid. I just quit smoking in February(after twenty yrs, I started when I was 12) because I was getting scared about the tightness, and I should be rewarded with good health, not all this ****!! Thanks to all who try to give comforting words. I have no maternal person in my life and even though I am a "grown up" I still want to be mothered, even if it's by someone my own age: )

I will sleep better tonight knowing you will be out there somewhere as I go through my testing and anxiety waiting to see what's wrong. It's weird how a complete stranger can be so comforting. I am going to go play video games with my son for the rest of the night, lose myself in fantasy land for a while. Thank God for little boys. Amazing little creatures, they are.

Tonna, I get those swollen glands under the ears all the time...and have since I was a child...usually right before I get a cold or an ear infection...
as for the swollen thyroid lobe...my left one was fairly big...with a nodule that was filling most of the entire lobe....no cancer ...I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis.,.an autoimmune problem..before having the lobe removed 6 weeks ago, I was having difficulty swallowing and the nodule was visible when I swallowed and the left side of my neck constantly looked swollen...so...don't jump to conclusions dear...even if there is a nodule it most likely is benign...and the glands are probably inflammed. Until you get further diagnosis, don't stress yourself entirely out!
