Could this be thyroid...not sure

Hello,

I have been having a lot of pain in my elbows and knees and shooting pains in my hands that sort of zap me.  I am 51 years old and through menopause.  I also am being treated for Lyme disease so I don't know if some of what I'm experiencing could be thyroid.  I was looking through some old lab tests and found this one that was actually fairly recent:

TSH 1.88 (.27-4.2)
T3 Total 80.07 (80-200)
T4 Free 1.06 (.93-1.7)

I also have a goiter (with blood flow) but had it biopsied a few years ago and it was okay at the time.

Like I said, I seem to be having all this pain in my body.  I've never really had "pain" before with my lyme (mostly neuro with tingling/numbness).  My doctors look at my bloodwork and say it's within normal but to me, it certainly looks at the bottom of normal.  It's all so confusing and now I'm started to wonder if some of the way that I've been feeling is thyroid related and not lyme/age like I've been putting it down to.

Some days I feel great with energy but there are days like today that I feel like complete crap (sooooo tired).

I have an appointment with a new endo in a few weeks but I wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts on my blood work.  I listed the labs ranges too.

THX!!!

You don't have to have ALL the symptoms of hypo to be hypo (thank goodness, because the list is as long as your arm).  LOL  I never had constipation or hair loss, either.

Your FT4 is at 17% of range, and many of us find we have hypo symptoms until FT4 is around 50% of range.  As you can see, your TT3 is on the floor.  FREE T3 is a much more informative test than TT3.  FT3 tells the amount of T3 in your blood that is available for your body to use.

I don't know if the pains in your joints are thyroid related, but you sure look hypo to me.  Next time you have labs, be sure to request FT3, rather than TT3.  Meds would probably improve both your pain and your energy level.

The guideline for FT4 is right around midrange.  FT3 guideline is upper half to upper third of range.  Top of the range is too high for many people.  These are just guidelines until you find where you feel best.  For some people that will be lower in the ranges, for others, higher.  In the end, your symptoms have to be your guide.

I think you are undermedicated causing all your symptoms hence  I had the same with my ft3 and ft4 too low .......so you need more meds....and that weakness, and pain should subside as your body balances. I didn't know what was going on with me either bec I was falling in the normal range but was unaware that you need ft4 to be over half way in the normal range and ft3 to at the upper top...so I was undermedicated. It is really worth a shot to get your dr to increase slowly to see if that makes the pains go away. I know how eary it is to have those symptoms but they will only get worse if it is the thyroid

Hi again Carrie,

Oh I see your FT4 is low in range and Total T 3 is very low in range too. You can see what I've posted on my first tests,  if you go to my profile.  I haven't updated my post because I have had no answers, other than Vit D being low at 19 and was waiting to see what my new 3rd new doctor would say.  I have an appt coming up soon, then will update.

Oh.....I wanted add that I do not have constipation and I've always been thin (although lately I have put on a few pounds).  I take meds to sleep at night because without them, I would lay awake all night.

The outer third of my eyebrows have been gone for years.

I don't have any hairloss (that I've noticed anyway) except for my temples but those have been that way for many years....

Just a bit more info.

Thanks again!
