Couldn't see thyroid on I123 scan

I've had Hasimoto's Thyroiditis for over 5 years.  My doctor has sent me to get a I123 scan twice.  The first time, the tech didn't finish, he said he couldn't see anything.  I was off my med for 4 weeks.  Recently we did it again, a different location and they told me to say off for 2 weeks only... they finished it but it came back saying the same.  They couldn't see it.

My question is... any ideas on why they can't see it?

Doc is sending me now for another type of test, something involving iv's.. oh fun!

The thyroid is still absorbing iodine during the Hashimoto's thyroiditis, it cannot use it to produce thyroid hormones: during the subacute and silent thyroiditis the thyroid cannot absorb iodine, and low uptake shows on the scan

Could it possibly be that you no longer have a thyroid?
I was just diagnosed with Hashimoto's in February of this year and my endo said I no longer have a thyroid because the antibodies destroyed it.
Just wondered if this could be a possibility why they could not see yours.

It's not showing because your thyroid is not absorbing the iodine.

Maybe you have a surplus of iodine in your body already? Maybe your thyroid has all it needs and doesn't want to absorb the test solution.

Maybe it ran away from home while you were sleeping?
