Crunch in front of neck when pushed

Hi, for the last few months ive been having discomfort in the front/right of my neck, just next to my adams apple.

When i get this sensation (many, many, times a day), i find that if i push on my neck, just to the right of my adams apple, something crunches/pops back into place and it feels a bit better again.

I know that there is something in everyones neck that will rattle left to right if you hold either side of your adams apple and move it left to right, but it seems that what ever this is, is shifting over to the right on its own and requires me to push it back into place. This doesnt happen on the left side, which is what makes me think its abnormal.

What is it that moves/rattles could it be and is it possible for it to become detatched or loose?

My doctor has referred me to an ear, nose and throat specialist but I am on a waiting list so it could be months. I have medial cover but it has an excess so would like to know if anyone has any idea what it might be and if its worth paying £200 to get it checked out sooner.

Thanks :)
Andrew

Med, I have the exact same symptoms. They've gotten worse and more frequent over the past couple of years to the point I can't ignore them. Did you find out anything?

Your asking on the thyroid board, goiters (an enlarged thyroid) large enough to be obviously visible are not very common, but do exist. Do you have a much larger / lumpy Adams apple area than in the past?

Do you have a known thyroid disorder, or symptoms (goggle if needed).?

Could you be feeling a tight muscle in this area? Muscles with knotted fibers can feel "crunchy" when tension subsides, kind of like scare tissue - not necessarily permanent though. Its hard to massage neck muscles, a natural gel such as Arnica Montana can calm them to some degree.
