I have Hashimoto's and was put on Syntroid 1 year ago. I did feel better and was able to start losing some of the 80 lbs that I gained in a period of 8 months. However, 6 mos. following the treatment, my depression was at its worst in 10 years. I begged my endo at Johns Hopkins to put me on Cytomel and EffexorEffexor Effexor xr after reading a few articles on the web. I had been on and off of many anti-depressants for at least 10 years, all with no success. While the low might plateau, the depression symptoms were overbearing.
I have only managed to lose 32/80 lbs that I gained.. How can I make this process go faster? I have never had a weight problem in the past. I went from 130 to 210 lbs and size 4 to 14/16W.
It's good to hear that you are finally feeling better.
I've been thinking about discussing Cytomel with my Endo.
It's a little hard to do when I never get a Free T3 run though. Still, she may go for it out of desperation. My dosage seems to change every three months and I would like to believe she is getting as tired of it as I am.
Not that one has anything to do with the other...
Glad you feel better. Can't offer you any help with the weight issue. I'd say send me fifteen pounds, but the mail man would probably have a cow.
I am so glad your process is working for you - A few people here are in the same shape you were in and a success story is so wonderful to read!
As for weight - well first - congrats on the 32 loss. There are many things out there i.e. diet exercise - some not so conventional treatments - but there real answer to have first and formost is to concentrate of the healing your body is now undergoing after the he// you were in. Once the healing is back and you are still stabilized the pounds should come off simply by living better again.
I just passed on a doctors appt today to do one of those non conventional weight loss things. I have about 25 more to lose and my impatience is growing tremdously. Yet I was so ill for years before getting optimal just shy a year ago this month. I took a step back and thought I need more time right now to maintain a healthy balance instead of reaching out again for something that may harm all the good that I am know having.
Except - eat well - exercise a bit and enjoy the "cocktail" that is giving you the right balance right now - the weight may keep falling off but not overnight as we (I) all hope for :).
First off - congratulations on the 32 pounds. I know to you it might not sound like much, but trust me - if I could lose 32 pounds, I'd be ecstatic; therefore, I might go ahead and send AR-10 that 15 pounds he wants - might be kind of fun to see the mail man have a cow (LOL).
Seriously, the weight loss is great. You might slip on over to Weight Loss and Dieting for a little extra help. There are some people over there that have great ideas and lots of support, along with games, challenges, to make the whole process fun.
I will be going to a new endo at the end of Jan and I was wondering if adding cytomel to my synthroid might be an option too. I don't have the depression but do have some other symptoms that won't go away - the weight gain in particular, but also still get very tired, etc. But like AR-10, I never get a Free T-3 run, so don't know if it would help or not. Hoping the new endo is more receptive to suggestions than my PCP is.
