Danger for thyroid storm?

by medicmommy, May 24, 2008 10:59AM
Hello! I am currently diagnosed with hyperthyroid secondary to thyrotoxicosis from doing chemotherapy.  I'm only able to take small dose beta blockers right now with the thyroid levels still remaining very high (TSH .01, T3 581, T4 24.3, T3 uptake 41.6)..Can I still develop a thyroid storm even with the beta blocker (Inderal) keeping my heart rate down? (I was getting palpitation episodes of 160 beats/min)...Thanks...

Yes, but the chances are that it will not happen.
It cannot be ruled out as an impossibility, so the answer is yes.
